The biopharmaceutical industry accounts for a significant number of jobs in West Virginia. The industry contributes 1,900 jobs to West Virginia’s economy.
West Virginia’s Mylan Pharmaceuticals is one of the state’s top 20 largest employers. Mylan Pharmaceuticals, a manufacturer of generic medicines, is Morgantown’s largest private employer with a team of 1,500. Biotechnology, life sciences and biomedical research – collectively known as bioscience – represent a major source of potential economic development for West Virginia. Recently, several state and national organizations met in Morgantown to discuss and plan for future expansion of West Virginia’s bioscience industry.
